Peter Klocksien Studios
P.O. Box 713
Cedar Key, Florida

Over the past three decades, Peter Klocksien has explored and painted the endlessly fascinating landscapes of the west and most recently, the Gulf coast of Florida. His brush and palette have recorded this various fascinating terrain.

Painting is in his blood. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1957, Peter showed an early interest in Art. "Trips to the Museum of the Art Institute at an early age made me want to be a painter. My mother worked, painting for Disney Studios in California. My father had a talent for woodcarving, my grandmother was a watercolorist. All of these influences gave me an early exposure to art.

Educated at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of Minnesota, Fine Arts College, Klocksien furthered his technique in Phoenix in the mid-70s at the Bill Schemmell Kachina School of Art. He also was a working apprentice to R.C. Gorman at the Navajo Gallery in Taos, New Mexico.

His landscapes reflect a strong Matissean and Fauvist interpretation of the forms and colors of the Southwest and Gulf Coast Regions. His works have been sought by discriminating collectors, interior designers, and corporate clients.

From the mid-80s to the mid-90s Klocksien lived and worked in the historic section of Santa Fe, where since the 1920s, the Cinco Pintores developed New Mexico as a center for serious painting.

"Light is the most important part of my paintings- the vast horizons and skies of the West and Gulf Coast Region, the simplicity of the islands of Cedar Key- its sunrises and sunsets- are all part of my inspiration," states Klocksien.

Relentless determination and long hours at the easel result in a highly charged chromatic symphony of color. The body of Klocksien's work is a memorable group from which any serious collector of art can select with joy.

The overwhelming grandeur of sky, the billowing cumulus and cirrostratus clouds, the bizarre shapes of mountains and seas, the unforgettable sunrises and sunsets, and the vast panorama of brilliant color- all fill poetic evocation in Klocksien's paintings.
